Blackwork vs fine line
The techniques are different but complementary. Fine line uses a single needle to lay down thin, precise strokes. Blackwork uses tighter needle groupings and multiple passes to build solid black fills, dotwork shading and heavier line weights. A blackwork piece will read from across a room; a fine line piece rewards being seen up close.
Emma often designs pieces that combine the two — a bold silhouette anchored by fine line detail, or a botanical framed with a blackwork element like a serpent or a moth.
