Emma is 21 and has been tattooing since she was 19 — drawn from illustration into ink by the quiet permanence of it, the way a small mark can hold a whole story.

Her practice is deliberately narrow. Fine line, botanical, celestial and script — worked with a single needle, a steady hand and a patient eye for detail. She trained in the UK and now sees clients by appointment at the Desire Ink studio on Broad Street, Rotherham.

The studio's clientele is largely women, but everyone is welcome. What her clients share isn't a demographic — it's a want for a tattoo that feels drawn for them, not at them.

"A tattoo should feel like it's always been there. My job is to draw it so quietly that the skin recognises it."
